Birds in the city. Manila Zoo probably hosts the only Rufous Night Heron colony in Metro Manila.

I went to the Manila Zoo this morning to see what birds can be found there. The zoo is still closed to the general public and I am a bit wary about what their future plans are for the zoo.

The Rufous NIght Herons are still there but surprisingly I did not see many Black-crowned NIght Herons. There were also cats and squirrels !!! The staff also mentioned that a couple of months ago, there were 3 “hawks” that would come to prey on the squirrels !!! The vet said these were not peregrine falcons but look like sparrowhawks. Hmmm, what could they be ?
